When we were in Laos we bought a limited number of Hmong storycloths in the popular large (32 x 46 inches) size in both vertical and horizontal formats. Several of the designs feature motifs we haven't seen before, such as Hmong planting rice in rice paddies, whereas traditionally the Hmong have lived in the mountains and have planted their rice on mountain sides. Many of the Hmong have been relocated to lower elevations where they have easier and better access to schools and markets and another advantage is have flat land where they can cultivate rice paddies.
