Sorry for abandoning our blog for over two months, but the good news is that we did have an amazing time in Laos, got some great textiles, attended the 3rd Lao Studies Conference in Khon Kaen, guided our friend Elli up in Sam Neua who's doing research for her book on Spirits in the Loom: Religion and Design in the Weaving of Northeastern Laos, and still had time to do research for our own book, an English translation of the Lao Sinxay epic. (Photo of an illustration (one of forty) is above and is of Sinxay with his two brothers, Sangthong (with the conch shell and Siho (with the lion's body and elephant head).
It's not great to stop taking orders from an Internet business, but it seems like customers were waiting somewhat patiently and we've mailed out four orders the last week and we just got an email from a customer who received her order today (an assortment of textiles including Hmong Spirit People Cloths and some of the Tai Dam Natural Dye Cotton scarves and fifty of our silk Dok Champa flowers) and she wrote, "Wow, Peter and Bai, I got my textiles already and everything is beautiful. I love everything - I knew I would. I can't WAIT to order again in the fall. Thank you for providing me with such lovely things."
Receiving an email like that just makes our day!
